Freeloading Indians

It's a lingering truism in Canadian mythology. The freeloading Indian. Even Justin Bieber went down that road recently.

But being Bieber is one thing, being Braydon Mazurkiewich, President of the Manitoba Conservative Party Youth Wing is quite another.

Braydon used his Facebook account to vent about the distress that the freeloading Indians were causing him. And it really was all about him.

After all, somehow those freeloading Indians are responsible for the high taxes that he pays, taxes that keep him confined to his parents' basement.

The immediate source of Mazurkiewhich's chagrin is a government decision to remake a former urban army barracks in Winnipeg into a First Nations development. That's a result of the government trying to tie up some loose ends left from a treaty signed in, get this, 1871!

Hmm... let's do some math... treaty signed in 1871, this is 2012, seems somebody's been freeloading on that First Nations property for about 141 years!

And it wasn't the Indians!
