Israel takes delivery of another German submarine

That brings the total number of Dolphin class submarines in Israel's navy up to four or maybe five. I got a bit confused while doing the research.

One thing is perfectly clear however.

These German subs actually work.

And by all accounts they are way cheaper than those British subs the Canadian government bought used back in '98.

What a great deal that was! Under a billion for four submarines!

Alas, deals that are too good to be true are usually, well, too good to be true.

Canada has been re-fitting and retro-fitting those used subs for almost 15 years now, and while the cost has now run into the multiple billions, the subs are still not quite just yet exactly 100% operational.

Yet.

But soon!

By then they will of course be antiques!

The Israelis on the other hand played it smart. They bought new. Not only did they buy new, but they bought German technology instead of British technology.

Which means their submarines actually work.

And the price has been less than what Canada has poured into those Brit subs that don't quite exactly work just yet.

Mind you, the Israeli's did benefit from the standard German WWII guilt discount, which Canada may have some difficulty qualifying for.
